Spring has sprung! The days are longer and lighter and the feeling of hibernation (hello Melbourne 2020) feels like it is reaching the end.  This time of year is a great time to give your home a spring clean and refresh.  Switching out accessories that are dark and moody and moving into colours and textures that are light can’t help but put a spring in your step.

Much like seasonal fashion, the less talked about cousin is seasonal fashion in interiors. We get a thrill when we are invited back to client’s homes to catch up, check in and get to work on new spaces.  Sometimes we see spaces that are styled exactly as we left them at the closing of the past project (what an honour) and sometimes the spaces have evolved with changes and new additions.  This actually makes Sophie positively giddy, as it shows the client has the confidence to make decisions and they are really owning the spaces they live in. When we meet with our clients to give a space a spring refresh, we aren’t changing out the core pieces and starting anew, we are talking about changing the accessories, again with the fashion analogy, like changing up an outfit with different jewelry. Let’s think about a Spring makeover of cushions, throws and accessories.

Updating pieces like scatter cushions can completely change the feeling of a room, and it doesn’t mean a battle of wills like we talk about in our previous post.  Updating the bits and pieces that make up your style is a fabulous way to lift a space, and one that doesn’t involve constantly buying new. Just because you own a spectacular set of candlesticks doesn’t mean you need to keep them on display in the same place for all eternity. The My Beautiful Abode studio has an enviable storage cupboard of design and decorating paraphernalia that we use for projects, and while not every home has as extensive a space, we encourage you to find some hidden storage to allow you to have somewhere to keep your collection of vases, interesting candles, coasters, object d art that you can rotate through your space. In fact, one of our favourite things to do at a My Beautiful Abode in-home workshop is to raid your china cabinet for forgotten treasures.

Our one hour workshop (face to face, or video call depending on where and when we are with restrictions) is the solution to this dilemma. A check in with us and a few well considered selections may be what you’re needing to spring into the new season.
