We understand that the designer you chose to work with should be confident and decisive but working with an interior designer does not mean you aren’t heard and your style not shown. There is a gentle balance to a healthy design relationship that should result in your dream space.

As designers we travel the line of pushing our clients to achieve more than they imagined their spaces could be and being respectful of their taste and style. While we might dream about projects with a ‘do what you like’, we embrace a brief that lets us know about your loves and loathes, about colours, shapes, art style. We need to know who is using the space and how it should function… style and function are not mutually exclusive.
When working with you, a good designer will embrace your style and appreciate your personality and personal style, even if you’re not sure how to describe it (we know design is a hard language to communicate if you don’t have practice). Love porcelain clowns? Then we will find a place to showcase your beloved collection even if we don’t share your passion. Loathe orange? No problem, we will go out of our way to avoid it in your space. Love the ocean/city/country side/Europe/Asia/Africa? We will get a sense of all of these interests and help navigate how we can incorporate these into your interior.
We often work with couples in decorating their home. This can be a real minefield of taking personal experiences and interweaving them with your partner. Sometimes these meetings can feel very similar to a counselling session, breaking down to the reason we can’t have striped blinds and a memory of the scary dog outside the butchers when you were a child. Or unable to have wallpaper after removing bad 70’s paper in your first home renovation.

At the moment we are working on a project where our client has a beautiful metallic blue electric guitar that is being woven into the room design so it is on display and the colour works in with the rest of the room concept. Another project in progress right now has our clients loving mid century furniture and jewel tone colours; bringing those elements together and having the space feel contemporary as well as welcoming is just the sort of challenge we relish every day. Not a minimalist? We’ll add they layers and details you crave. Clutter makes your skin crawl? We can smooth out those lines and create the sleek clean finishes you need.
Let’s have these conversations and work out what you love and make that space you’ll love to live in.
