A year or so ago we received an SOS call from a lovely client of ours. Why the emergency? A friend had spilt a cup of hot tea on her brand new cobalt blue sofa. We had just had it made for her earlier that month, so she was understandably beside herself in panic! Was it ruined? Could it be fixed? How to clean it? What next? All the questions were running through the gamut. *

Last week, on a chilled out evening night in, Melbourne-iso style, Sophie our lead designer was planning to indulge in a glass of red wine after dinner when a stray ball went flying across the room.  Living with boys, right? It sent the full glass of beautiful shiraz flying off the coffee table and over her beloved new velvet modular sofa.

Never before have you seen someone move so fast: well there was that time Sophie’s toddler son inhaled a 20 cent coin, but that’s a story for another day. Wine was across the sofa, scatter cushions and rug. The thought of a brand new sofa, damaged when they planned to have it for many years was
enough to make anyone ignite into action.

That said, Sophie was surprisingly calm- she knew that her careful selection of a family friendly and easy-care fabric specified for the sofa meant that the spill would be able to be blotted up. It was as if by magic the potential stains disappeared. She removed the scatter cushion covers and put through the washing machine as there was nothing to lose by doing this… they were either stained shiraz red for good, potentially damaged in the machine or they  would be restored to new. Luckily, they were saved.

The point of this story is that we know where to get and have the right products for the purpose, in this case, furnishings selected to cope with an active family. In fact, every time we post an image of Sophie’s cat alongside her beautiful sofa we receive DMs from people who worry about the cat’s claws and the lush velvet but they’re actually a match made in heaven. If we didn’t tell this story about the sofa’s run in with red wine, there is actually no evidence that the incident had happened. Talk to us about how we can help you make smart choices with your new furniture.

*The tea was blotted up, the fabric was a little crunchy as it dried, but once it was lightly brushed, it settled back to normal as if nothing had happened.
